Mornings with Jesus aren’t one-size-fits-all. Ready to tailor yours to your personality and make your morning thrive?

from the ‘gram :: vol. 8

I’ve been reading a lot of things about pruning lately (and not because I’ve been looking for it). A devotional here, a blog post there, a subtle and underlying repeated pattern of pruning tucked away in my journal. Four weeks ago, it was strawberry plants and picking off the blooms and making the backwards decision to cut off the fruit as it grows. You know those kinds of decisions – the ones that make you stare are yourself in the mirror and wonder “am I crazy for doing this?”
.
“It’s what you have to do,” @annvoskamp wrote, “pick off all the first blooms to ensure subsequent harvests are more plentiful. … It’s the pruning of seemingly good leaves that can grow a better life. To allow later seasons to yield the longed-for abundant crop. … What can seem like the plucking of dreams may be the wisest of investments. In the later harvest. The sweetest one.”
.
This morning? It was Streams-in-the-Desert-grapes and standing in a hothouse, entirely surrounded by luscious clusters of grapes. “When my new gardener came,” the owner said, “he said he would have nothing to do with these vines unless he could cut them down to the stalk; and he did. And we had no grapes for two years, but this is the result. … Pruning seems to be destroying the vine, the gardener appears to be cutting it all away, but he looks on into the future and knows that the final outcome will be the enrichment of its life and greater abundance of fruit.”
.
And so I ask for pinching-power and cut-clean-to-the-stalk-strength. Because I’ve learned enough over the years to pay attention to His clustered word patterns. Even in the form of strawberry plants and grapes.
